Out of the 500,000 visually special needs persons in India in 1897, a blind Pachani was led to Pandita Ramabai Mukti Mission by her 5 year old sister with other famine victims from central India. The Little sister died after a few months and Pachani felt her loss keenly. Ms. Abrams started teaching Pachani and another special need child like her the Hindi characters using the Moon System. Thus, started the journey of visually special needs home and school of Mukti.
Our special needs section is exactly SPECIAL!
When a 3 year old girl was admitted to Pandita Ramabai Mukti Mission she had no strength in her legs and was unable to walk. Today, after coming to Mukti, God has healed her! She can now run around and is a typical naughty, active child. Another 4 year old child used to walk on her hands but now after coming to Mukti she is able to walk normally, it’s a joy to see her walking and dancing!!
Another milestone was when three visually challenged special girls all under the age of 3 were brought to Mukti, this was first for Mukti to take girls of such young age. God in His mercy and with the help of the Mukti staff, they are now going to school an learning many things that their families may not have been able to provide.
In 2011, it was joy to witness the marriage of one of our beautiful blind women. It was indeed a very exciting time at Mukti.
There is always a need for more trained workers to be a pat of the Special Needs section within Mukti.
If you feel encouraged to serve, enable and build women and children with special needs you are always welcome to volunteer or work at Panditta Ramabai Mukti Mission.
